Spring Hair Tips

Springtime brings exciting, luscious new flowers blooming, and gradually warmer temperatures.

It's also when frizzy and flyaway hair go wild. Here's a few tips you can take to ease the transition to Spring and then summer for your hair.

Humidity: The mixture of heat and damp weather can leave your hair flat, defying any attempts you've made for specific styles.

This is the time of year you are going to want to go with your hair's natural style.  If your hair is naturally curly, find an easy style that embraces your curls.  If your hair is naturally straight but curls a little naturally in humid weather, try finding a style that loves loose curls - and defy the humidity!

Moisture: As we know, the earth needs the rain to produce the flowers... but it can also wreak havoc on our hair. Your hair tries to soak up the moisture from the air, therefore upping the chances you'll end up with Frizz.

Some find that blowdrying can make your hair look frizzier. If that happens, try letting your hair dry naturally, adding a dab of anti-frizz serum or gel while damp, then comb through it to distribute the product evenly. Hint: keep a little product in your purse, that way you can use a drop to smooth down any strands that might attempt to frizz.

Heat: Just like in summer, heat in spring can also add to some of your hair issues. When hot air opens the hair cuticle, it can cause split ends, breakage, and dull your hair color. Of course, many hair products also make your hair feel slick when they're exposed to the hot weather.

There's a simple solution to keep heat at bay: when you are almost finished blow-drying your hair, try putting your dryer on it's cool setting to finish it off. This will help seal in the moisture by closing the hair cuticle. Also, ask your stylist for the best hair serum to portect your hair from the elements.

Rejuvenate Yourself

After a long, extended winter, we all have to admit we enjoy the sunshine and the warmth it brings.

Unfortunately with our busy lives, we don't always remember to take time for ourselves.

Yet, spring is the best time to rejuvenate yourself, get yourself back in touch with nature, and just destress.

Here's a few things you can do to make yourself feel invigorated and rejuvenated, just like the flowers that are getting ready to peek through the ground.

If you work at home or in an office, consider moving your desk (if possible) to be closer to a window. If you don't have that ability, make sure you take at least 10-15 minutes a day to sit directly by a window.

Studies have shown that people who work near windows are much more productive and creative, simply because of the natural light.

Add some plants to your home. Houseplants are great, but another thing you can do is go to your local Home Depot or nursery and buy some small packets of seeds for your favorite flowers.

Even if you don't have a lot of direct sunlight coming into your home, there are flowers that thrive in shade. Seeing these growing in your own home in advance of summer, will help give you an added feeling of natural calm.

You could also take some time and walk through a local park, just for some fresh air. This is the time of year when you see joggers enjoying the nicer weather - even if you don't jog, you can certainly take even ten minutes for that relaxing walk.

And of course, make sure you give yourself some extra special pampering with a spa package. An occasional massage, a facial, or even a completely new hair style will help you rejuvenate yourself and make you feel like a whole new you!
